CRAIG DOREY found himself teaming up with a fellow Channel Islander in his continuing experience of a summer's outdoor bowls in Australia. Dorey, one of the island's representatives at the 2006 world under-25 indoor championships, has pulled off some fine wins since arriving in Victoria and beginning to represent the Shell Harbour Sharks.

Often he has been playing not only for prestige but cash.

However, in tournaments at Gerrigong and Jamberoo he just missed out on the money, finishing fourth both times.

At Jamberoo he teamed up with Joe Pierce and Channel Islander Mike Cochrane to pull off a single-shot win thanks to Dorey's finely-weighted wick which picked the jack up to make four.

The triple then played Warilla, bitter rivals of the Sharks, and triumphed by 13 shots.

Lunch was taken with the temperature having soared to 40C and on their return, the two CI men and Pierce just failed to win by the necessary 20 shots to get among the prize-money.

They won by 17 but went home empty-handed.

The Gerrigong tournament was for pairs and the competition was fierce.

'There were premier division players from St John's Park, Kiama and, of course, Gerrigong.

'We finished up joint fourth: not bad but no cash.'
