Le Ber in last place despite strong finish
ALTHOUGH Guernsey's Matt Le Ber was level with Canada's Steve Santana and Filipino Ronald Lising with three wins in seven matches, he finished last in the WBL World Junior Cup in Hong Kong on sets and shots countback.
ALTHOUGH Guernsey's Matt Le Ber was level with Canada's Steve Santana and Filipino Ronald Lising with three wins in seven matches, he finished last in the WBL World Junior Cup in Hong Kong on sets and shots countback. Le Ber's determined finish saw him win two of his last three matches. He was particularly pleased with his 15-4, 9-12, 2-1 ninth round victory over Australia's Jesse McKenzie, though, after dominating the first set, it almost slipped from his grasp.
He can also look back with pride on his performance in the 10th round, where he almost forced the eventual champion, Barry Kane, from Ireland, into a tiebreak, before Kane got home, 10-5, 7-6.
Kane, who defeated his closest rival, Andy Duncan, from Scotland, in the ninth round, needed to beat Le Ber to guarantee himself the title, so the narrow win in the second set was worth its weight in gold.
