GUERNSEY'S Bailiff Geoffrey Rowland could make his debut in the Fletcher Sports FA Cup - if he so wishes. Court Row United will have a tough baptism of fire in the competition after having been drawn out of the hat against Priaulx League side Vale Rec in the first round.

The squad which will be coached by advocate Simon Geall and Bill Brogan will be aiming to spring a few surprises.

But Geall and fellow advocate Liam Roffey will not be putting on the Court Row shirts - having opted instead to play for their Priaulx club side St Martin's.

The team was Geall's brainchild and has generated considerable interest around the court buildings and legal practices.

'Realistically we are going to give it as much as we can,' said Brogan.

'From what I have seen there are some good players. We are very hopeful.'

The squad will be made up of people employed at Court Row, including those who work for the island's legal firms.

'We are going to instil in them shape and discipline,' said Brogan.

'From the reaction of the e-mails I have been getting they are certainly very keen and up for it. We have permission from the Bailiff's Chambers to form a team.'

When asked whether the Bailiff could be involved he said: 'The Bailiff would be considered if he wished to participate.'

'The door is open to anybody,' he added.

The full squad has yet to be selected and a trial game will be held and the players assessed before it is finalised.

It will include a mixed age group comprising young, fit players to others in their forties.

'The main idea is to foster the spirit of football and get some camaraderie going,' said Brogan.

The Bailiff has made cameo appearances against media teams in the past.
