GUERNSEY juniors retained the coveted rose bowl trophy with their fourth consecutive inter-insular win. The achievement was particularly special for those players featuring in the competition against Jersey for the first time.

Saturday's format consisted of three games each of trios, doubles and singles, with tense and exciting play from both teams.

In the trios, Guernsey won gold and bronze with creditable scores from Josh Harvey (193 and 219 games and 589 series) and Chantelle Hale (179, 191 high games and 528 series).

The doubles also saw Guernsey out on top with gold and bronze medals with excellent play from Stephanie Hale (198, 210 and 236 high games to finish with 644 series) earning her highest series and individual gold, followed by Chantelle Hale (high games 180, 203, 171 with series 554) with individual bronze.

Harvey (high game 187, high series 563) and Chantelle Hale (173 high game, 521 high series) took silver and bronze respectively as the day finished with the singles.

The Sunday format consisted of five-strong teams for three games and singles play of three games, consisting of one Guernsey player and one Jersey player, with the singles winning points going to the overall tally.

That was won by Louise Savident, who showed real Guernsey spirit after having an injured shoulder aggravated from Saturday's play, finishing two points to her Jersey counterpart's one.

The team event, even with Guernsey's respectable lead, is always hard fought and Guernsey could have easily lost their advantage, except for a truly brilliant display of bowling in their first game to finish 206 pins ahead.

With a excellent high game of 246, Chantelle Hale earned individual gold for highest game of the junior tournament.

Both teams struggled to maintain consistent high scores as the oil pattern changed, with Jersey faring better in game two to draw against Guernsey and in the last game the Caesareans won.

Special mention must also go to Jordan Le Tissier, who was the anchorman in the five-man team.

He was unnerved, finishing either with a strike or spare at the end of each game.

The final score was Guernsey was 2,486 pins to Jersey 2,349.
