BELS lost a dramatic penalty shoot-out in Jersey after a heroic backs-to-the-wall display nearly earned them a Wheway Cup final against the odds. Playing much of the game against Trinity with just 10 men after the straight red dismissal of striker Marc McGrath, Micky Ogier's side grabbed a 2-2 draw in normal time, went ahead through American Mark Laws early in the extra period and very nearly hung on for the win.

But Trinity, potential Combination champions, snatched a late equaliser and won the shootout 3-2.

Trinity were a goal up and a man to the good at half-time, but Neil Clegg levelled early in the second only for the home side to restore their advantage.

And with time running out, Dave Rihoy made it 2-2 with an up-and-under effort.

Saturday's Sure Mobile Priaulx League triple header produced wins for North, St Martin's and Vale Rec.

Young Jamie Gauv-ain scored a maiden senior goal, a screamer from 20 yards, the only goal of the game as Vale beat Rangers 1-0 at the Corbet Field.

At Port Soif, Saints cemented second spot and maintained a slim hope of the title with a 3-0 win over bottom side Rovers, while at St Peter's North came from behind to pick up three vital points in their bid to claim a top-three finish.

Jan Renouf gave Sylvans a first-half lead, but a Tom Strawbridge own goal levelled matters and junior Matt Loaring grabbed the winner.?
