LE MONT SAINT Subaru put themselves two points clear of Collins Stewart at the top of Yorkshire Guernsey Division One with a 27-point win over the Island Under-21s at Beau Sejour last night. 'Very pleased to be at the top of the league,' said Subaru's player-coach Pete Beausire.

The juniors indeed struggled to come to terms with the big centre as he netted 35 points.

He cleared up a lot of his teammates' missed shots and especially those of his older brother, Pete, who did not have the best of games.

'I'd just like to thank Pete for all the rebounds,' joked the 6ft 7in player.

The big man linked up well with forward Jan Renouf, who came home the second highest scorer with 19 points.

The junior side also failed to deal with Renouf's power.

Overall, the match was a subdued affair that never really ignited.

And Subaru, with a comfortable 52-29 lead going into the last quarter, took their foot off the pedal.

'I thought we played as a team in the first three quarters and then in the last quarter we just fell apart, to be honest,' said Mike Beausire.

The top scorer for the U-21s was senior island player Jason Hooper.

The guard racked up 19 points and was clearly his team's best player.

Unlike Beasuire, he thought it was not Subaru but his own team who took their eye off the ball in the final quarter.

'It was same way as always - we hung in there with them until the last quarter,' he said.

'We just always seem to throw it away in the fourth. To be fair, they were better - plus they had Mikey.

'We'll come back harder at them in the next game.'
