ST MARTIN'S have dented Rovers' hopes of catching them in the race for the women's title. They virtually assured themselves of the league when they came away from Port Soif with all three points as they secured a 3-1 victory on Sunday.

But experienced skipper Annie Knights is making sure the players keep their feet firmly on the ground and insists it is not a foregone conclusion.

'Some of the younger ones are overexcited but the older ones realise it's not over until you get the trophy. You just never know which way it will go.

'It was a close game and the score did not justify the game,' she admitted.

Saints went 2-0 up through Dani Gervaise-Brazier and Kirsty Davison before the former added her second to make it 3-0.

Rovers had a chance to pull one back from the penalty spot but Becky Hart shot straight at Hannah Coutu.

Cathy Hennessey did pull one back, though, with a cracking free kick into the top corner.

Candice Simon had an outstanding game for the victors on the left wing.

'We have got another three games and have to play Vale Rec twice and Bels once,' she said.

Saints travel to the Corbet Field tomorrow night for a rearranged game - a week after Rec lost to North 1-0.

'Vale Rec have improved a lot and we have a few missing,' she said.

Knights is work-tied, Elaine Ward is away and Michelle Le Prevost is unavailable due to another commitment.

St Martin's also have to play Jersey's First Tower United in a friendly for the Lewis Laine trophy.

In another game on Friday, Sylvans beat Bels 5-0 with two goals from Eleanor Holden and others from Kayleigh Marquis, who played out of goal for the last 10 minutes of the match, Rochelle Vaudin and Julie Palmer.
