Watson's run ended

HEATHER WATSON gave a good account of herself against the world's number two junior player as yesterday she was knocked out of the Roehampton ITF Juniors.

The Sarnian tennis star and last year's under-16 British champion came up against Melanie Oudin in the quarter-finals. The American is the number-two ranked under-18 in the world and is undoubtedly a superstar in the making. Watson, just 16, is currently ranked 227.

'It was close and there were a whole five games where she had break point, but just didn't convert it. Heather did win points but it just didn't seem to come off for her when she was going for the win. The other girl is a good player, very confident and just doesn't make any errors. I'm very proud with the way Heather performed.'
