IT WAS touch and go as Heather Watson got past Beatrice Capra to make the final of the US Junior International Hard Court Championships.

Played at the Atlantic Club, New Jersey, the 16-year-old Sarnian lost the first set of her singles match against her American opponent, 7-6.

She rallied back in the second to win 7-6 before taking the deciding set 7-5.

Watson, who is ranked 89th in the world and seeded number two in this tournament, now faces the number one seed, Kurumi Nara, in the final.

The 16-year-old Japanese player is ranked number nine in the world.

The US Junior International Hard Court Championships is seen as a warm up for the US Junior Open which gets underway at Flushing Meadow a week tomorrow.

Watson will have to qualify for the American version of Junior Wimbledon.
