HEATHER WATSON will go for gold today having reached the girls' singles tennis final at the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India.
She comfortably defeated home favourite Poojashree Venkatesha 6-2, 6-1 in this morning's semi-final and awaits the winner of Monica Wejnert versus Kyra Shroff.
There was also good news for Guernsey in the swimming pool as Robyn Le Friec reached tonight's 200m butterfly final having clocked a new personal best of 2min. 23.47sec. in the heats.
Yesterday, the Guernsey team had a great day five, led once again by Watson. The starlet played a near-perfect match to win convincingly in the quarter-finals.
She outclassed third seed Australian Jade Hopper to win 6-2, 6-1. The victory took less than an hour, which left Watson refreshed for her semi-final match that had been scheduled to take place in the afternoon, but Venkatesha was also involved in the doubles.
Watson's manager and mother Michelle was pleased that everything went to plan.
