Surely the first of many visits to SW19 for Watson
ONE week in July makes up my highlight of 2008.
ONE week in July makes up my highlight of 2008.
They always say that the best nights out are the ones that are on the spur of the moment and aren't planned.
That adage applies to when I went to report on Heather Watson's debut at Wimbledon. But the thing was, it was never in the diary for us to go.
And when at Wimbledon, I was only there on a day-by-day basis. If Heather won, I got to stay another day.
You see, Heather only received a wild card entry for Junior Wimbledon the week before, after she reached the quarter-finals of the Roehampton ITF Junior Circuit event.
With Guernsey's rising tennis star booking her place at SW19, I now had to do the same and get press accreditation.
The problem was that the All England Tennis Club had stopped accepting accreditation requests about four weeks beforehand.
However, after an email equivalent of me getting on my knees and begging for all that I'm worth, they let me.
