It was the Guernsey girl who defeated the Indian in the final of the Commonwealth Youth Games last October, and it was a repeat result in the second round of the Optus Nottinghill International in Melbourne.

Watson, who is ranked 13th in the world and seeded number five in the competition, met the Indian again at the weekend in what is a high-class warm-up for next week's Australian Junior Open.

The Sarnian won the first set 6-1, before having a harder time in the second, which she claimed 7-6.

Watson's win earned her a place in the last 16 against Japan's Miyabi Inoue, who has a world ranking of 29 and is the tournament's number 12 seed.
