HEATHER WATSON cruised into tomorrow's third round of the Australian Open junior singles with a straight sets demolition of South African Chanel Simmonds - 6-2, 6-1 - at Melbourne Park this morning.
In a repeat of her winning scoreline against Australian Harriet Sheahan yesterday, the 16-year-old Sarnian overcame the blistering heat to dominate her opponent from the opening game.
In the last 16 she plays the unseeded Japanese player Miyabe Inoue, who she defeated 6-1, 6-3 at the Optus Nottinghill tournament last week.
Watson, who won the Yutacan World Cup in November last year and the Scottish Junior International Championships in 2007, has set her sights on a maiden Grand Slam and third junior singles title this week, but is determined not to think too far ahead.
'I've only lost six games in two matches so far so my game is on form and I'm happy with the way I'm playing, but I'm taking things one match at a time,' Watson said.
'I'm here to win the tournament but I don't want to think beyond tomorrow's match.'
