HEATHER WATSON'S dream of a first Grand Slam title came to an agonising end at the final hurdle on Saturday.

The Sarnian star and her Hungarian partner Timea Babos missed out on the girls' doubles title at the French Open when they lost a championship tiebreak 10-8 to the number two seeds, Romania's Elena Bogdan and Thailand's Noppawan Lertcheewakarn.

The number three seeds had won the first set 6-3 but they lost the second by the same score.

'We lost by two points - it could have gone either way,' said Watson. 'A championship tiebreak is really tough because every point is really important.

'We did really well in the tournament and it was a great experience. It was my first French Open and I've done all the Grand Slams now.'

Watson and Babos made an impressive start in the final and raced into an early lead, breaking their opponent's opening two service games before clinching the first set in 26 minutes.

However, Bogdan and Lertcheewakarn fought back strongly in the second set to take the final into the deciding tiebreak.
