HEATHER WATSON has swept into the last 32 at the big warm-up event for next week's Junior Wimbledon tournament.
Competing in the Aegon International Junior Tournament in Roehampton, south west London, she is seeded nine and in the same half of the draw as top seed Kristina Mladenovic of France.
The tournament is the most important in the international junior calendar outside of the four Grand Slams. It attracts most of the top junior tennis players in the world as they aim to hone their grass court games a week before Junior Wimbledon at the All England Club.
Watson, who gained automatic qualification into the tournament due to her high junior world ranking of 14, lived up to her reputation and recent form by despatching Mexico's Alejandra Granillo in some style 7-5, 6-2.
After the game she said: 'I love playing on the grass and so anything that happens from here on in is a real bonus and a great confidence boost ahead of my next tournament.'
Yesterday, she defeated American Brooke Bolender 6-2, 6-2 to set up a third-round match today against sixth seed Ajla Tomljanovic from Croatia.
