The 17-year-old Sarnian, who is the 12th best junior in the world, defeated Italian Giulia Gasparri 6-2, 6-1 at the Essex club.

She now faces fellow Briton Nicola George in today's quarter-finals.

Watson is also having a good time in the doubles with her British partner Stephanie Cornish.

They beat number three seeds Olivia Smith and Tammi Patterson 6-2, 6-0 yesterday to reach the semi-finals in which they will play the numer one seeds.
