RICHARD DAVEY has thanked his summer transfer to Rovers for his call-up to the Guernsey squad to face Northampton Town Football League in the FA Carlsberg National League System Cup tomorrow.

The 24-year-old goalkeeper found himself playing second fiddle to Steve Gibson at North last campaign.

And after a transfer window fiasco that saw him first go to the recently reformed Athletics for one week before it was made clear that his services were not required, he now finds himself at Port Soif, where he is the new captain.

Guernsey boss Tony Vance named Davey (pictured) as cover for Jody Bisson, who cannot make the trip, for their vital second round match with Midlands league side.

'Obviously I'm quite happy with that and that was one of my aims with moving clubs,' said Davey about his call-up.

'One thing was that I wasn't enjoying my football at North but the second thing was that I wasn't getting that chance to play week in, week out. I'm pleased.

'I wasn't in the original squad but it's a good starting point and hopefully as the season goes on, I'll keep my form up and I'll see where I go.'

Vance is delighted to name Davey in the squad.

Davey joins Rangers shot-stopper Tom Le Tissier, who is also more than 6ft-tall.
