HEATHER WATSON is not at her best on clay courts but she is coping well with the surface competing at the $25K ITF Jackson tournament in Mississippi.

She has already made it through the three qualifying rounds as number six seed, and yesterday thrashed fellow Briton Nicola Slater 6-0, 6-2.

In the first round Watson beat Alexandra Cercone (USA), 6-4, 7-5 and in the second round she beat Vanja Galijasevic (Aus) 6-1, 6-0.

Watson is now into the main draw where she will play the Bolivian, Maria-Fernanda Alvarez-Teran, seeded eight.

She is partnered with Laura Robson (GB) in the doubles and in their first-round match beat Litvak (USA) and Salut (ARG) 6-1, 6-1.
