KEVIN RUMENS flew the flag for Guernsey in style to finish fifth at the recent Jersey Rally.

Alongside his navigator, Kay Taylor, their performance was exceptional in the 79-car field, while seven other Sarnian cars took part.

But it was the pairing of Rumens and Taylor who stole the show for the island, driving excellently on the Saturday, which made up for Friday's stages, in which they were well down in the slippery conditions.

Those weather problems had led to the Friday night stages being cancelled after only two stages after a bad accident.

The conditions continued into the Saturday, although it had dried out sufficiently after the first two runs.
