Powell hits a purple patch with three island records

FLYING Sarnian Ian Powell has slashed three island records in the pool.

Competing at the Stockport Metro Open Meet held at Grand Centrals Pools, Stockport, the Commonwealth Games finalist (pictured) set three new island short-course marks in the 50, 100 and 200 butterfly.

He claimed top spot in the 50m event with a time of 24.60sec., finishing two seconds ahead of his nearest rival, Sam Edwards of Stockport Metro, and smashing the island record previously held by Ben Lowndes by over 1.3 seconds.
