JOHN DUNNE finished the 2010 season on a high and has started the new one in similar fashion.
The big man, who scooped the prestigious Le Pelley Memorial Trophy at the annual Guernsey Kart and Motor Club presentations, was the only record breaker at Saturday's sprint which opened the new racing season.
It was, it must be said, a low-key start with just over 50 competitors coming to the start line on an afternoon when a south-westerly breeze and grey sky combined to slow times.
Not in the case of Dunne though.
The Ford Escort driver managed to lower his own production cars up to 1400c record twice, clocking 14.16 with a 94mph maximum speed to slice a tenth of a second off the mark on his first timed run and then clip a further tenth off on his next.
