ALDERNEY'S gambling industry will remain strong despite proposals to make offshore operators pay for a UK licence, the island's director of e-commerce and development has said.
In a written statement to Parliament, UK Heritage minister John Penrose said new legislation should be introduced to put operators on a level playing field.
If accepted, any operator selling bets to UK customers, regardless of where they were situated, would have to apply for a UK licence.
But Alderney e-commerce and development director Robin Le Prevost (pictured) said he was confident the move would not affect the island's offshore gambling industry, which has more than 100 licence and certificate holders.
