A LOCAL cargo vessel ran aground in Littlehampton Harbour yesterday.

The 60-metre long Mungo, operated by the Alderney Shipping Company, was filled with gravel when it ran aground at about 3.20pm, across the entrance of the Sussex harbour.

The website shipwrecklog.com speculated that the likely cause of the incident was a steering failure.

Solent Coastguard watch manager Alan Waters said there were four crew and two pilots aboard the vessel when it ran aground.
