ALDERNEY Wildlife Trust patron Miranda Krestovnikoff just loves our little island.
The TV presenter visited for the fourth year in a row last week to take part in the annual bank holiday wildlife festival.
And Miranda, who is well known for appearances on BBC shows Coast and The One Show, told me she always looks forward to her Channel Islands holiday.
She said: 'Alderney's a very special place. Roland from the Wildlife Trust invited us over a number of years ago. He said, "Come to Alderney and you'll fall in love with it", and that's exactly what we did.
'You can't fail but fall in love with this place – it's so special, so peaceful and so quiet. When you're here, you feel a million miles away from anywhere. I have a very busy summer of filming, so it's wonderful to come here and relax.'
Miranda said she enjoys bringing her children, Amelie and Oliver, as the island is so safe.
'We've been on the beach today and I can go for a swim and leave the children playing and I don't worry. I don't have any safety issues – nobody's going to nick our stuff, everyone's friendly and it's just really, really lovely.
'I really look forward to our week in Alderney... and the children love it as they have freedom they wouldn't get anywhere else on holiday.'
Miranda said she was trying to convince The One Show, BBC's flagship teatime programme, to visit in the near future.
'We're not sure yet as the ideas haven't been pitched, but I think there's a possibility we might come over. I'd love to come over again to work here and maybe have another holiday with the family.'
As well as getting involved in just about every wildlife festival event, Miranda and her children planted two trees at the peace garden, which forms part of the sports centre site.
Miranda was delighted to see how the garden had matured since cutting the ribbon at the York Hill venue a year ago.
She said: 'Seeing the changes is lovely. The place is maturing and has been really well used. There's clover everywhere, the bees are buzzing and everything has come alive.
'I thought it would be an informal affair but lots of people have been here cheering us on and Amelie did a little dance around her tree and then all the other kids got involved.
'It's been lovely and moments like this are really touching. It's good to get back to nature a bit.'
