HOW politicians interact with young people, keeping beaches clean and dealing with overcrowded schools were issues raised as College of Further Education students probed election candidates yesterday.

The mini hustings at the Delancey campus was part of the @TheStates initiative, sponsored by De Putron Fund Management, to get young people involved in politics.

Proceedings started with a speed-date style chance for small groups to quiz each candidate before coming together to ask questions as a whole.

College principal Trevor Wakefield said questioning candidates in this way was an opportunity young people had never had before.
