From today the price of electricity in Guernsey increases by 9%, although according to Guernsey Electricity the rise is not going to be permanent, yet might last several years.

Part of the reason for the rise is the cost of repairs to the cable link between Guernsey, Jersey and France, and we'll be talking to Guernsey Electricity today to find out how progress is going on getting the link up and running again.

Today sees the beginning of the end for the old Beaucamps School, which is to be demolished now that the new school has officially opening. Education minister Robert Sillars will be spearheading the demolition and we'll be there to watch him get the work under way.

Tonight someone will be presented with a special award recognising their contribution to local sport.

The award is part of Volunteers' Week, which is launched today by local firm Bedell Cristin in conjunction with the Guernsey Sports Commission, and is designed to pay tribute to the unsung heroes of the Guernsey sports scene. We'll have a report on tonight's presentation in tomorrow's Press.

It's the annual Royal Court Chief Pleas sitting at St James today, which traditionally includes a speech by the Bailiff and will today see Richard Collas addressing this gathering for the first time in his term. The meeting will be followed by a procession down to the Town Church.

Tomorrow's sports pages will have a look ahead to the new table tennis season, as well as a report on the first tournament, which takes place tonight.

And there'll be news of Andy Priaulx, following his best result so far in his debut season in the DTM event.
