EDUCATION minister Robert Sillars has insisted that the merging of Vale Infants and Junior schools still 'makes sense' – even though the decision was originally made more than four years ago.

States members representing the parish also backed the move at the weekend after parents received a letter announcing the plans, which were given the go-ahead by the previous Education board.

Vale Infants head teacher Jasmine Bynam will step down on 31 March and junior head teacher Gary Hind will be acting head of the infants in the summer before implementing the merger.

Deputy Sillars, pictured, said there would be a saving as part of the plans for a single head teacher but this was still unknown.
