AURIGNY'S new jet is set to touch down in Guernsey next year after the airline struck an initial agreement with an aircraft manufacturer.

The States-owned airline's interim chief executive Mark Darby confirmed Treasury and Resources had approved a business case for the purchase of an Embraer E195 regional jet, pictured.

It follows the States decision to grant Treasury and Resources authority to facilitate a loan for the purchase at last month's debate.

'Aurigny is very grateful for the support that it has received from the States for this exciting project, which will be a major step forward for the airline,' said Mr Darby.

'It will be a significant investment for us but it is essential that we replace Flybe's capacity utilising our existing slots on this lifeline route.'
