Major recruitment drive for teachers
EDUCATION is embarking on a major recruitment drive to attract the best teaching candidates to help realise its secondary federation vision.
The announcement that the department was in the market for 40 new educators came as minister Robert Sillars, pictured, sought to allay fears about the department's plan for the island's five state secondary schools to join forces.
It led to concern that pupils would lose continuity with teachers if staff were regularly moved between schools.
'As a board we are very aware of the teacher/student relationship and we wouldn't want to devalue that or do anything that would interfere with the educational outcomes of our children,' he assured.
'We want this to be an evolution, not a revolution, and we will be consulting with teachers in the near future.'
