Condor Ferries currently has an interim extension in place until 2018, but wants more security over its future before making major investment in its fleet.
Deputy Luxon, pictured, said the proposed longer-term agreement would give Condor confidence in its planned £50m. investment in a new trimaran vessel.
The new deal could be signed off in the coming weeks, ahead of Condor buying a new high-speed trimaran which could be deployed on the route in late October.
Deputy Luxon said it was an exciting opportunity to get an 'impressive new vessel' serving the Guernsey and Jersey routes.
