Gatwick reduction idea 'not a worry', says travel agent
ISLANDERS should not worry if Aurigny were to cut the number of services to Gatwick each day, an experienced travel agent has said.
In its report on the re-capitalisation of the airline, Treasury and Resources has put to one side the move for now, but said the Gatwick slots would be kept under review depending on how many people chose to fly to London City.
World Travel director Jamie Blondel said each airport offered advantages.
'Gatwick is mainly for onward connections, and easyJet are a huge, huge player there. The 10.30am was an additional rotation put into Gatwick, and that has been very important and advantageous for people,' he said.
'But at London City you can fly to lots of destinations as well, mainly business routes such as Luxembourg or Geneva. You can get into London, but for Central London people still tend to fly the Gatwick route.
'They would need to think about prices, as landing fees at London City are higher, and there is no point in flying a plane there half-full, when you could have a full one going into Gatwick.
'I think people would adapt to what they chose, but it would be interesting to see what does happen.'
