Aurigny finds back-up to serve Alderney

AURIGNY has sourced two 'immediately available' eight-seater planes to prevent a re-run of the situation two weeks ago when all its Alderney planes were grounded.

On Monday 9 November, one Trislander was grounded because of a shortage of a particular spare part, another was in routine maintenance and the engine of another refused to start.

Neither Dornier was available either.

Passengers were stranded, freight lay untouched and the post failed to come in.

Aurigny said it had been trying for some time, without success, to charter back-up planes.

Now it has announced that it has found two eight-seater Piper Navajo Chieftains that would be available 'if there were no serviceable Aurigny aircraft to fly the route', said a spokesman.
