Former phone museum sold

THE former Telephone Museum has sold for around £150,000 less than the original asking price.

Closed since 2011, and on sale since 2014, Hermes House, as it is officially known, originally had a price tag of £550,000.

It was lowered to £495,000 in June 2015, then sold recently for £375,250, a figure which does not include fixtures and fittings.

Treasury and Resources had said previously that the half-million-pound price tag represented 'real value for money', especially considering the department has planning permission to convert it into two adjoining residential units with parking and gardens to the rear.

'The sale price realised for Hermes House reflects the current market and what a buyer is willing to pay for a property such as the former Telephone Museum,' said a spokeswoman.
