The vessel, which was carrying a 'small number' of migrants according to official reports, was stopped mid-journey after leaving from near the French commune of Barneville-Carteret - about 14 miles from Jersey's north-east coast.
Guernsey's Law Enforcement authorities were informed of the incident but had no direct involvement as it took place in French jurisdiction.
A Guernsey Border Agency spokesman said it had worked through a variety of potential scenarios that could develop as a result of refugees or migrants being displaced from Calais. Plans were in place should officers need to respond, he said.
