Teenage pupils get to see what jobs await them after education
EXPERIENCING life away from Guernsey is still a popular option, students said, despite the breadth of opportunities that are available locally.
Many students said that yesterday's Careers Show, held at Beau Sejour, was a good chance to see what options were available for them on-island.
But while a number said they wanted to start a career locally, others felt they would have more opportunities if they were to look elsewhere.
Hundreds of young people attended the show to talk to representatives from engineering and technology companies, the States, creative industries, the armed forces as well as caring professions, to explore their future career options.
Ladies' College students Autumn-Rose Rowe, 16, and Bernice Saunders, 15, said the event encouraged them to think about what they would do after school or university.
'I have always wanted to join the Army, but I was also thinking about working in health and social care so it has been really useful to get more information,' Autumn-Rose said.
'I think I would like to go away for a bit, but there are a lot of opportunities for young people here, so I would potentially look at coming back.'
