Rumble strips and pedestrian walkway to calm Friquet traffic
TRAFFIC calming and safety measures are to be introduced in Rue du Friquet.
Traffic & Highway Services senior traffic services officer Phil Ogier said the issue of safety in the area was considered earlier this year and a number of measures have been decided upon to 'better highlight the potential conflict between pedestrians and motorists in this area'.
These include pedestrian symbols being painted in the section of road where there is no footpath, rumble strips and a slow sign marked on the approach to the double bend.
The work to install these markings is imminent and they were designed to encourage drivers to slow where visibility is reduced and where the available road width does not allow for a footpath and two-way traffic flow.
'Traffic & Highway Services is also in discussions with the Castel constables regarding improving the street lighting on the bend and will be monitoring pedestrian movements over an extended period to determine whether any additional measures would be warranted.'
Castel douzaine had written to the Environment & Infrastructure Committee outlining its concerns over the area and the hazard it presents to pedestrians.
