Opponents of St Martin's build start online petition

CAMPAIGNERS against the third attempt to build houses on agricultural land at Les Blanches hope that islanders will show their support by signing an online petition.

The petition so far has more than 410 supporters.

Island Development Ltd wants to build 26 properties – 14 apartments and 12 houses – on the St Martin's site.

Dr Tony Lee is one of those who helped to set up the petition and said that 10 apartments would be social housing with the Guernsey Housing Association and four apartments and 12 houses would be residential homes for the over-55s.

At a public planning meeting in December the then Environment Department's political board rejected an application to build 37 homes there by a 3-2 majority.
