The airline said the lifeline route delivered record passenger numbers over the last three months, with more than 88,500 passengers being carried between August and October.

It is the highest number it has ever carried during this period.

Aurigny said the final training with the new London Gatwick staff was being completed ahead of this month’s launch of the airline’s ground handling operations at the London airport.

The team of more than 20 Aurigny staff will handle ground operations, so customers will be able to deal directly with the airline throughout their journey.

‘With the Gatwick route growing in popularity, we see this as a really big step in providing the very best level of service to our customers,’ said Aurigny commercial director Malcolm Coupar.
