It should help avoid the shortages over Christmas that have hit supermarket shelves in recent weeks as bad weather and problems with the Commodore Goodwill took their toll.

The announcement of the three-year charter of the MV Arrow comes as Condor Liberation is due to return to service on Friday having been out of action since 23 October for repairs to jets and general maintenance.

The charter of the Arrow will provide additional capacity to its conventional fleet, the Commodore Clipper and Commodore Goodwill.

She will be based in Poole until early January on stand-by to help with the Christmas and New Year periods.
