The tender process for the service has been launched today, with the hope that an operator can be found to offer day trips between the islands between May and September.

Nine companies have already expressed an interest and they will now be invited to tender.

Economic Development president Charles Parkinson said they were pleased to have had such a positive response at the expressions of interest stage.

‘It demonstrates that there is a clear desire from a range of operators to establish a viable and sustainable service,’ he said.

Jersey’s Economic Development, Tourism, Sport and Culture minister, Senator Lyndon Farnham, said getting a service running was important.

‘It is essential that we improve the opportunity for islanders and visitors to travel between the islands as soon as possible and the strong level of interest at this stage bodes well for the successful establishment of a service next year,’ he said.

‘I would encourage all operators who have so far expressed an interest to submit a tender.’
