Condor puts on extra day returns for sport in 2019
EXTRA day return crossings have been laid on by Condor between Jersey and Guernsey next year to allow sports teams to compete in events in both islands.
The company’s chief executive, Paul Luxon, said that it was too late to change the 2018 schedule.
However, the ferry boss said he hoped that sports teams would be able to alter their plans for next year in time to take advantage of the new dates.
‘We take our responsibility as the main ferry provider in the islands very seriously, supporting the local and visitor economies, so we are pleased to be able to help the sporting community through these dedicated sailings next year, all of which can be booked from the end of April,’ he said.
‘The working relationship with Jersey Sport, the Guernsey Sports Commission and [Guernsey’s] Sports Tourism Group has been very positive and we hope to build on these partnerships and further develop inter-island sporting links.’
Meanwhile James Tilley, sports partnership manager for Jersey Sport, added that they had worked with Condor to ensure that the ferry times suited sports teams’ needs, with ferries departing around 9am and returning around 6pm.
‘We hope teams heading across for inter-insulars will make use of these and there could be a wonderful atmosphere on board, with multiple groups all travelling together to proudly represent their island.’
The 2019 day return services are operating from Guernsey to Jersey on 10 March and 6 April and from Jersey to Guernsey on 24 March and 12 May.
Members of the public not associated with sports teams are also able to book onto the ferries.
