‘Horizon thinking’ at leadership conference
THE founder of Cobra Beer and the commanding officer of the Sandhurst military academy will be speaking at a major conference on leadership in Guernsey.

Leaders, a Guernsey-based consultancy focused on creating leadership excellence across the Channel Islands, is hosting its second annual conference at St Pierre Park Hotel on Thursday 20 June. The event will focus on the theme of ‘horizon thinking’.
Lord Bilimoria, chairman and founder of Cobra Beer, will ask the audience – what does courageous leadership require? He believes that courage is at the heart of effective leadership and will draw on his experience as a businessman, entrepreneur and peer in the House of Lords to challenge the audience’s conventional thinking.
The speakers also include Major General Paul Nanson, Commandant of the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, who is renowned the world over for excellence in leadership development.
‘I hope to bring each leadership story to life with examples from my own experience and with vignettes from military history. The purpose is to suggest lessons that might be applicable in a civilian context,’ said Major General Nanson.
Also speaking will be Ellen Moon, a lecturer in environmental engineering. During her childhood in Jersey, Dr Moon aspired to make a positive difference to the world, and her career in science is enabling her to do just that.
Leaders’ founder Phil Eyre will also interview Specsavers founders Dame Mary and Doug Perkins on how their personal values have shaped their long-term vision and enabled them to navigate business and personal challenges.
‘Leaders’ inaugural conference in 2017 was very well received by the business community who enjoyed the different perspectives our guest speakers shared on their leadership experiences,’ said Mr Eyre.
‘This year we are equally excited about the line-up of speakers, who will draw upon their diverse experiences to challenge our leadership thinking and stimulate discussions around the theme of “horizon thinking”.’
