There is a need for young achievers to be recognised
IT IS VITALLY important that the achievements of young people are recognised, 17-year-old Equality Conference speaker Tabitha Carr has said.
She was supporting the Guernsey Press Pride of Guernsey Awards, which include a special category for young achievers.
She chaired the Youth Forum until last year and in 2017 was nominated for the Pride of Guernsey Awards. This week she has been chairing part of the Equality Conference, looking at tolerance and acceptance.
She said people often focus on bad things done by young people.
‘I think it’s important young people get recognised for the good work they do in the community,’ she said.
‘Young people need to be noticed more. Often people do not realise the good work they do. Young people really want to make a difference. It needs to be acknowledged.’
Miss Carr is currently studying at the College of Further Education and is going to study nursing and social work at Edge Hill University in the autumn.
Anyone under 18 can be nominated in the Young Achiever category, which is sponsored by St Pierre Park Hotel Spa and Golf Resort. They can be nominated for their studies or for a hobby, or a talent in sport or the arts. Previous nominees have included young golfers, basketball players, volunteers and young people promoting good causes.
Due to demand, the deadline for nominations is now Friday 12 July 2019. Below is a nomination form for all categories including Young Achiever.
