The event was notable for the number of school children who turned out, keen to have their say on the changes, which would see vast expansions to Les Beaucamps and St Sampson's High Schools.

The campaigners marched from North Beach, along the front and into Market Square, where speeches were then made asking Education, Sport & Culture to stop moving forward with the current proposals and consider alternatives.

The youngest speaker was 12-year-old Les Beaucamps pupil Angel Perkins.

She was very concerned about how much disruption the changes would cause to her generation's education.

'This made me want to speak out,' she said.

'They [the politicians] need to change their minds.'

People Power Guernsey organised the event.

One of the organisers, Rachel Presland, said they were pleased so many people had ventured out in the drizzle to be heard.

'We are amazed [by the turnout],' she said. 'Now we are going to keep going until Education listens.'
