Each Thursday at 8pm for the last month, people have been seen to stand on their doorsteps and clap, whoop, cheer and sing as loud as they can to show appreciation for those on the frontline during this global pandemic.

Last night, Health & Social Care workers joined together and recorded their clapping which they have shared with local media.

Lots of people shared their photos and videos online using the hashtags #ClapForCarers and #GuernseyTogether.

Some even honked car horns or played musical instruments.

In Clos Des Goddards, Castel, residents decided to come together and sing 'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' after the applause.

At the Guernsey Press, we love seeing all your photos and videos to share online, too.

Bonny Hamilton told us last night that she heard bagpipes at the junction of Burnt Lane and Rue Maze in St Martin's.

She said it was 'totally epic' and 'brought massive smiles to our faces'.

Charlene Hollingworth arrived in Guernsey this week to join healthcare staff as a nurse at the PEH during the emergency.

She said it had been quite daunting to be in a new place at this time but the clapping really cheered her up.

Sue Aldwell said the sound in Torteval was amazing from the top of the valley to the bottom

'Cheering clapping, whooping and banging pots and pans, it was wonderful,' she said.

Julie Falla-Ovens said she was out clapping with staff from Le Platon Residential Home.

Tonight [Friday 17], keen fundraiser Luke Le Prevost hopes islanders will step outside again at 8pm and shine a torch or light a sparkler in memory of those who have lost their lives due to Covid-19.

He has hundreds of sparklers that islanders can have safely delivered to their homes by texting 07781 180980 or islanders can collect them from outside his house which is Sorrento, Rue du Marais, Castel, GY5 7LE.

He asks for a small donation to his fundraising page for Les Bourgs Hospice in return.
