Luke Le Prevost has more than 3,000 sparklers, which he said he can safely deliver to people who want to take part or they can pick them up from outside his house.

‘The idea came from the Thursday night Clap for Carers events,’ he said.

‘I thought it would be a great idea to do one similar for people who have sadly lost their lives to the coronavirus, both on and off the island.’

A friend who owns a shop donated the sparklers to Mr Le Prevost and islanders are asked to make a donation to his fundraising page which will go towards supporting Les Bourgs Hospice.

At 8pm tomorrow, islanders can stand on their doorsteps, light up their sparklers and think of those who have died during the pandemic.

Mr Le Prevost said hundreds of sparklers have already been given out and hoped lots more would take part to make the event really special.

TO SAY thank you to health care staff working on the front line during this pandemic, Luke Le Prevost also raised money to show his gratitude and support Health & Social Care in purchasing the necessary equipment and technology to beat the coronavirus.

He set up a JustGiving page and is taking on little challenges to encourage people to donate.

Inspired to start fundraising to say thanks to all those working in the community and in health care to tackle Covid-19, Mr Le Prevost hoped the money raised could be used for whatever was needed to control and deal with the outbreak in the island.

‘These workers are on the front line and are putting themselves at risk for the island’s safety and, to me, that is just incredible,’ he said.

So far, Mr Le Prevost has shaved his eyebrows, waxed his chest hair, armpit hair and leg hair and has been live-streaming these on his Facebook page to encourage people to click the link and donate.

He has also broadcast some of his most embarrassing moments and had his partner do his make-up.

‘My goal is to give as much as I possibly can to the people on the front line of this pandemic,’ he said.

‘When I set up the campaign the goal was £1,000 but it blew up and people were sharing the campaign and the donations were just rolling in.

‘I keep raising the goal as I want to raise as much as I possibly can.’

The fundraising campaign is now over and a total of £6,575 has been raised for health staff.

‘I cannot take full credit for this, because if it wasn’t for the generosity and donations from people it would have not been possible,’ said Mr Le Prevost, who is now fundraising again for Les Bourgs Hospice, continuing his live Facebook videos.
