The Fire and Rescue Service was called to the house, at the bottom of Delancey Hill, St Sampson's, at around 9.45pm.

'An area of decking approximately four metres by 10 metres in the back garden of the property was well alight on arrival,' said crew commander Milton Le Moignan.

'We also had an LPG cylinder fully involved in the fire.'

The cylinder's valve had apparently released gas which had ignited, causing the damage.

'This was an old LPG cylinder being kept in the garden,' he said.

Gas from this LPG cannister caused the blaze, but what it ignited it is unknown. (28545315)

But what caused the gas to ignite was unknown and under investigation, he added.

'Neighbours told me they saw 45ft flames,' said Mr Le Moignan.

There was no damage to any other property and nobody was injured in the blaze, which was extinguished soon after the fire service arrived, and firefighters cooled down the cylinder.

The road was closed while the incident was dealt with, and reopened at about 11pm.

The owner of the property did not wish to comment on the fire.
