Illustrated by local artist Steve Winstanley, several iconic island landmarks and creatures characterise the stamps, including the Guernsey cow and Alderney blonde hedgehog.

Guernsey Post’s philatelic bureau was excited to announce the arrival of two colourful stamp sets with a light-hearted theme.

‘For this year’s Christmas stamps, we wanted to capture the fun and excitement that many people associate with Christmas,’ said Bridget Yabsley, philatelic bureau head.

‘We are delighted with the colourful stamp designs that Steve Winstanley has created, which highlight some of the festivities enjoyed in the beautiful Bailiwick of Guernsey.’

Featuring in the Guernsey collection is Santa’s arrival by lifeboat, and the festive figure scaling Les Hanois lighthouse to rescue presents dropped from his sleigh.

Alderney’s set includes a Santa selfie with one of his elves, riding the Alderney train, plus the island’s signature yellow phone box and blue post box.

Queen Victoria and Prince Albert rode on the only working Channel Island railway in 1854 in a horse-drawn carriage.
