St Stephen’s Church minister suspended
ST STEPHEN’S minister Father John Moore has been suspended, it was revealed yesterday.
Members of the church’s congregation were informed of the news at Sunday’s service when a statement was read from the Right Reverend Trevor Willmott, the now retired Bishop of Basingstoke.
‘I deeply regret having to inform you that on Thursday, I suspended Father John Moore from the exercise of public ministry with immediate effect,’ said his statement.
‘Suspension in itself is a neutral act in order to protect everyone and to allow further investigation to take place.’
No information about the reason behind the suspension would be forthcoming, he said: ‘I am truly sorry that I am unable to respond to any questions which may occur to you as a result of this brief statement.
‘I would ask you to hold everyone concerned in this matter in your prayers.
‘Be assured that you are all much in my prayers this morning.’
Father Moore has been one of the ministers at the Anglo-Catholic church since 2015 and is one of two Anglican vice deans for the island.
Before coming to Guernsey, he was assistant chaplain of St Michael’s Paris in the Diocese of Europe.
The Guernsey Press was told that Father Moore would not be making any comment.
