ONLY one call about someone not wearing a face covering in an indoor place was made to the Joint Emergency Services Control Centre at the weekend.

However, it turned out to be a misunderstanding of the regulations.

On Saturday, it became compulsory to wear a face covering on public transport and in indoor public spaces, with a penalty of a £100 fine for anyone who does not comply without an exemption.

‘It is clear that the community are supportive of these new regulations and the need to take appropriate steps to reduce the continued risk of infection,’ a spokesperson from Guernsey Police said.

‘The Joint Emergency Services Control Centre have only received a single call in relation to the non-wearing of a face covering, which was found to be a misunderstanding from the caller of the regulations and no breach was found to have taken place.’
